Instant Meditation:
The Rapid Relaxation Technique

For many years, I taught a meditation class. The practice was called Sahajah Yoga, which roughly translates as "surrender meditation." It is an extremely powerful meditation technique and is one that definitely is a "teacher to student" method as it can go very deep and uncover many levels of spiritual awakening and experience.

One of the big challenges in starting to learn meditation and progress with the practice is to overcome what we used to call "monkey mind." In a nutshell this means letting go of the constant internal chatter that most of us have going on in our head at all times. This is a really ingrained pattern of mental activity and can be a real hurdle to jump for the beginner to reach a deeper level of relaxation and a more true meditative state. People fidget, squirm, clear their throats, etc. as they first attempt to let go of that constant internal dialogue and go deeper into a state of deep relaxation. Sort of a cosmic dichotomy; "let go of those thoughts, but don't think about letting go!" (sorry, a little bit of meditation humor there, we don't quite approach it like that.

I often thought, wouldn't it be wonderful if I could just get my students to that place of deep relaxation and inner peace right away, sort of a rapid relaxation technique. To really get it and get there reliably and easily can take some dedicated practice. Just like anything, some are naturals and glide right into a meditative state but for many people it takes that daily practice to start to yield the result. For the newbies, you must convince them that what they seek lies ahead and stick with it, don't give up. Meditation is experiential, you "get it" when you "get it" so to speak.

I have meditated since long ago during my college years and it was a real help getting my Master's degree and when I began to teach. In the intervening years I had become increasingly interested in all things dealing with the mind and spirituality. Somewhere along the line, I became fascinated by what I read about hypnosis and it's ability to create a seemingly meditative state during a session, something I had expended much time and effort to lead people to as a mediation teacher. Not to mention the absolutely fascinating explorations of the mind, the spirit, and the inner intentions and processes of the mind!

Ever being the teacher and ravenous student, I took my first hypnosis certification course while I was still teaching meditation and things have never been the same for me. It was fantastic! I could get just about anyone to a deep level of relaxation in the first session! And in that state, the spiritual awakenings, breakthroughs, and triumphs I witnessed have left me in awe. I could go on and on about that subject, but will save it for another topic. I digress..

In these days of high tech, rapid transit, multi tasking, and go, go, go, it seems everyone wants to relax. Using my training in meditation and hypnosis, dealing with thousands of students and clients, I developed a recording I call "Instant Meditation." In this recording, I take the listener gently into a deep relaxed state using the relaxing music of my meditation teacher (who had taught me Sahajah Yoga), DurgaMa, and soft, soothing hypnotic suggestions in a revitalizing guided meditation. It's a great way to relax and let go of the stresses we all encounter as we trod our path down life's lane. I could go on and on about the benefits of relaxation through hypnosis and meditation and the fact that health and relaxation go hand in hand, but suffice to say that you won't be disappointed when you delve into the magical realm of deep, inner relaxation.
